Brisbane, Australia — Cook Medical is now offering the Fusion® OMNI™ Sphincterotome with DomeTip® preloaded with Cook’s premium second-generation Acrobat 2 Calibrated Tip Wire Guide. The Fusion OMNI Sphinterotome has been available to physicians in Australia as its own product, but now it will come preloaded with the Acrobat 2 wire saving procedure preparation time for both long-wire and short-wire technique options.
The Fusion OMNI Sphincterotome is a device used for cannulation of the bile duct and for performing a sphincterotomy, which is a procedure that cuts a sphincter muscle. The preloaded system aids in bridging difficult strictures during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures, such as gallstone removal and blocked duct problems in the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts.
For physicians, these ERCP procedures can be difficult. When performing ERCP procedures, physicians have difficulty draining bile ducts in 9.8% of cases.[1] This statistic includes serious complications such as pancreatitis (5.4%) and haemorrhage (2.0%)¹ in the patient. This is why it’s imperative that physicians have access to precise and flexible medical devices to mitigate the challenges of these procedures.
For additional treatment options, our premier sphincterotome range, Fusion OMNI, now comes preloaded with the Acrobat 2 Wire Guide, Cook’s second-generation wire guide. This comes with advantages such as:
- 35% greater tip flexibility than competitor wire guides[2]
- 29% greater pushability than the original 0.035-inch diameter Acrobat product[3]
- 1:1 torqueability for precise wire guide rotation during cannulation and duct navigation[4]
- Visualisation of position and movement with the Mark V System®, which enables high-contrast visualisation of movement and depth of insertion
“We are constantly looking for ways to improve physician and patient experiences. By combining the Fusion OMNI and the Acrobat 2 wire guide, we’re offering physicians our most advanced technology for biliary access with the added benefit of great procedural efficiency, saving time for physicians and their staff so they can focus on serving patients,” said Barry Slowey, President of Cook Medical’s Endoscopy specialty and the Cook Winston-Salem facility.
